Convergence is a gathering of felt makers and sharing knowledge is the underlying theme. It is four full days of immersion and indulgence in every aspect of felt making suitable for all levels of experience. Anyone interested in felt making and textiles should attend. There is no need to belong to a formal textile organisation or felting group. Just come along, learn, share, felt and have fun.

Felt Jewellery

Let’s face it, felt jewellery can be tricky. So often it’s a case of just because we can doesn’t mean we should. Some felters however produce beautiful pieces and Kim of the Bunbury Felters group is one of those talented individuals.
Kim’s flair seems to be instinctive. Just new to felting, she decided to start small and from experiments making balls and discs her felt jewellery was born.

Not surprisingly Kim’s first necklace was snapped up straight away. The purchaser was going to the 10th Felt Convergence at Masterton and was looking for something to go with the dress she was planning to wear.

Kim made 3 more necklaces and put them in to Stirling Street Art Centre’s “Out of Our Desert” exhibition. They sold before the exhibition opened.

Looks like you have a talent Kim.

We love them.

2011 Felt Convergence Fund Raising

It’s an unfortunate fact that it will take a lot of money to run the 11th Southern Hemisphere Felt Convergence.  One of the Convergence Committee’s first tasks is to start the fund raising program and to run it relentlessly right through Convergence. The more money we raise the better the Convergence will be and we have a big and exciting program in mind for you to enjoy.

Helen O’Neill of the wonderful Sals Wool Den, got the fund raising going straight away with a raffle for a big $110 worth of wool tops. Members of FeltWEST and Bunbury Felters all were eager to be a winner and bought tickets from Helen when she joined the groups at their recent meetings. Barb from Bunbury Felters was the lucky lady and we look forward to seeing some of her creations made from the prize.

Helen is now raffling two items donated by Jacqui of the Bunbury Felters group. A copy of the inspirational new book The Felted Play (Fitz Spiel) written by German felt maker Annette Quentin Stoll. It’s a quirky and fun approach to felt objects and beautifully illustrated.

The Felted Play available from Artisan Books

Plus a lovely hand dyed network felt scarf. It’s also the right size to use as a table runner during our hot summer months so can be used all the year round.

If you see Helen on her visits to the various felting and weaving groups make sure you buy a ticket. If you’d like to support her with her fund raising and would like to donate a suitable item please email us here at feltconvergence@gmail.com

First, we want to welcome you to our blog. This will be our primary method of communicating all Convergence information. We are planning an exciting program in Bunbury and we’ll be announcing all the details here so add our address to your “favourites” folder and look in regularly to keep up to date. Better still, subscribe to our blog and you'll be first to receive all information.

In addition to the many great classes, you will also have the opportunity to spend time seeing some of Western Australia’s beautiful south west. So as well as covering felting matters this blog will also be posting on things to do and see in the area, and also include basic things regarding the Convergence such as how to get here.
