Convergence is a gathering of felt makers and sharing knowledge is the underlying theme. It is four full days of immersion and indulgence in every aspect of felt making suitable for all levels of experience. Anyone interested in felt making and textiles should attend. There is no need to belong to a formal textile organisation or felting group. Just come along, learn, share, felt and have fun.

Please Dress Matilda

Our model - Matilda has nothing to wear to the Convergence.  Can you help dress her?

Matilda is one of the models appearing at the Convergence Fashion Parade but we are worried that she may have absolutely nothing to wear.

We have the auditorium, photographer, models, music and lightshow but so far only 49 Convergence attendees have indicated that they will be providing garments for it!

So please bring your beautiful garments and wearable art for a spectacular night of entertainment with your work on show at this fashion event.

You can model your own garment or have it paraded by the models that we will be providing. Professional photographers will be taking pictures of the catwalk show and a CD of the event will be available for purchase at a nominal cost at the end of the Convergence.

We need you to bring your creations to make this a fabulous night of fashion and to dress Matilda of course!

Convergence Announcement - Draw for Master Classes

As previously announced the Convergence program will include Master Classes run by Anita Larkin the celebrated art felter who has made the world of felt sculpture her own and Liz Clay - the internationally renowned feltmaker and author.

Each Master Classes will run over 2 days and accommodate a maximum of 15 students.

As we expected, the demand for attending a Master Class has exceeded the number of places available, so a ballot has been run to determine places.  We put the names of everyone who said they would like to be part of a Master Class into a hat (well actually it was a plastic ice cream box but it did the job).  The Convergence Committee looked on as Convergence Convener Val Hornibrook drew out the names.

The lucky Master Class participants will be notified by email shortly.

If you don't receive an email from us then your name was not drawn.  However our program provides  lots of felt tutorials for you to enjoy and participate in.

Most importantly, we wanted everyone to be able to enjoy the Anita Larkin /Liz Clay experience so we have arranged for each of these felt masters to deliver two presentations to all Convergence attendees.

With only three months to go we are getting very excited.

Make Your Convergence Banner

It has been a tradition of past Convergences for all attendees to felt a banner to be displayed and then sold to raise money to help finance the next Convergence.

We will be supporting this tradition in October and we therefore need you to bring a felt banner to the Convergence.

Here are some ideas from the 10th Southern Hemisphere Felting Convergence in Masterton, New Zealand -

Don't they look wonderful.

So get making yours now.  Each banner should be sized approximately A4 (that's about 12inches by 8.5 inches for those of you who like things in the old money).

Colours, embellishments etc are completely up to you, so have some fun and fly your banner on our wall.

They will be put on sale to raise money for the next Convergence in 2013.  Oooooooh!

Important Convergence Announcement - Final Payments

Firstly a quick reminder that your final payment of any outstanding Convergence fees are due by Thursday 30th of June.

If you are paying by EFT please  include the term "Final Payment" in the details box on Internet banking.

Also we have had some queries regarding the cost of the Closing Cabaret Dinner so to make things absolutely clear please note:
  • The cost of both residential and non residential participants in attending the Closing Cabaret Dinner  is included in your registration fee.
  • An additional payment is only required if you are bringing your partner and/or friends to the Closing Cabaret Dinner.
So to sum up -
If it's only you (the participant) coming to the Closing Cabaret Dinner it's included in your fees.

If you would like to invite guests we have to charge a nominal $20.00 per guest. You can include this amount in your final payment.

Looking forward to receive your final payments and if you have any queries please email us at feltconvergence2011@westnet.com.au.

Convergence Announcement - Please Read This Before Making ANY EFT Payments

As our recent post said, the fully residential places for Convergence have sold out and there are only a few remaining non-residential places available.

Therefore we are requesting that no one makes any payments to us for new registrations by the Electronic Funds Transfer (EFT) method. If you wish to make a payment for a new registration by EFT please email us first. This will help us to confirm that there is a place available for you before you pay. This will assist us with our administration by preventing us having to arrange to refund monies to you if the Convergence non-residential places have sold out when you apply.

Remember to email us if you want to go on our waiting list for Convergence full residential places. We will put you on our waiting list.

Thank you all for your help.

Important Convergence Announcement - Guess Who's Coming to Tutor Pt II

Yes, the 11th Southern Hemisphere Felting Convergence Bunbury 2011 promises you an exciting program of talks, workshops and master classes that will bring new strengths to your felting work.

Our world class keynote tutors include  Anita Larkin from New South Wales who will be making her first visit to Western Australia.

Anita is an experienced sculptor and felter who has exhibited widely throughout the Eastern States of Australia. She will bring a breath of fresh air to our felting fraternity, giving us new direction in our work.  We are particularly pleased that she is able to join us as many of you experienced felters told us that you wanted to focus on the artistic side of felt as a medium.

Go over to her own website for her full biography and pictures of her amazing work by clicking here.

Keep looking in to our Convergence Blog to get all the latest news on the Convergence and enjoy all the beautiful felting that we are showcasing.

Important Convergence Announcement - Guess Who's Coming to Tutor

We are  very excited about the wonderful tutors we are having at the 11th Southern Hemisphere Felting Convergence. They  include some of the biggest names in felt making and design, to give you a program that will challenge and extend your felt making to the highest levels.

We are pleased to announce one of our keynote tutors will be the internationally renowned feltmaker and author Liz Clay .

Most felters will know Liz through  her book “NUNO FELT” which has to be the most comprehensive instruction book on combining wool fibres with fabrics that is available.  It is certainly one of our favourites and if you haven't got this valuable resource in your own library then we recommend you get one.  (Perhaps Liz will have some signed copies for sale at the Convergence?)

Liz is the current president of the International Feltmakers Association and a much celebrated felter and designer from England.

In addition, Liz has been featured in Vogue magazine and has worked for the Givenchy fashion house and for the amazing Stella McCartney.

She has not visited Australia before and she is very excited about joining us at  the 11th Southern Hemisphere Felting Convergence and also getting to see some of our great country.

We are so pleased that she is able to join us .  She will be running a number of segments at the Convergence so everyone will be able to enjoy the  Liz Clay experience with their felting.

Keep tuning in to our Convergence Blog for another Tutor announcement shortly.

If you want to join us at the 11th Southern Hemisphere Felting Convergence in Bunbury October 2011 you must register your interest via the email link on the right hand side bar of this Blog.
