Convergence is a gathering of felt makers and sharing knowledge is the underlying theme. It is four full days of immersion and indulgence in every aspect of felt making suitable for all levels of experience. Anyone interested in felt making and textiles should attend. There is no need to belong to a formal textile organisation or felting group. Just come along, learn, share, felt and have fun.

Bunbury Felting Group - 11th Southern Hemisphere Felting Convergence ABN 62663714697

The 11th Southern Hemisphere Felting Convergence was a fabulous five days in October 2011 at Bunbury Western Australia.

The Convergence may be over but we are still felting so please join us at the Bunbury Felting Group blog.

Our Fabulous Tutors

When we were compiling the information on our tutors for your registration packs we realised how many of them have had their work included in magazines.

In fact if you are flicking through the pages of the latest issue of Textile Forum you will find Anne Foy's work on page 22.

Then, while sitting having a quiet moment with our new book "500 Felt Objects" we  spotted the work of two of our tutors - Maude  Bath  and Liz Clay.

If you are not familiar with these publications then rush out and get them now.  500 Felt Objects has just been published and is an absolute gem.

We have a very talented group of tutors to delight you with next week.  Thank you to all who have agreed to tutor.  Without you there can be no Convergence.

Felting Fashion at Work

After our 21st of June post on Lizzie Houghton's excellent book "Felting Fashion" we received an email from  blog reader and felter Shirl in Carterton New Zealand saying how much she loved the book and how it had inspired her to make some amazing jackets using the tips and techniques in it.

High praise in deed we thought and we had to see the results. So here is one of Shirl's beautiful creations a la Felting Fashion -

Shirl says that the photos were taken on the only sunny day they have had in quite some time!

Shirl tells us that the jacket is made from a coloured merino fleece with silk chiffon , silk organza and strips of silk scarves inlayed in a nuno technique. Silk tops were used scattered over the surface for added effect along with some orange and oatmeal coloured merino in fine wisps.

It is fabulous and we are very impressed.  Now, where did we put that book?

Felt Masters - Lizzie Houghton

We received an email  today  from the talented Lizzie Houghton today wishing us well for the 2011 Felt Convergence.

Lizzie is a fashion designer based in England who loves working with felt.  If you haven't read her excellent book Felting Fashion then go out and buy it today.

It's full of beautiful creations but even better there are lots of instructions on how to go about your own projects.  It is so nice to have a book that is really useful and not just pretty pictures.  The jackets in it are particularly stunning and just the inspiration needed to get making one of our own for these chilly winter days.

Thanks for the good wishes Lizzie.
